The number of cases of cancer is rising every year worldwide. The specialty of oncology focuses on the detection, treatment and after-care of - especially malignant - tumours.
Treatment takes the form of surgical interventions, radiotherapy or medication-based treatment. The latter includes both chemotherapy and anti-hormonal therapy, also known as targeted and immunotherapy. The primary aim is to remove or destroy the tumour tissue, however if this is not possible, the emphasis lies on palliative treatment.
