In Switzerland, towns and regions are committed to sustainable tourism development as part of the Swisstainable programme and are allowed to identify themselves as Swisstainable destinations. Guests discover destinations with different focal points in the area of sustainability – from good accessibility by public transport to regional value creation and the protection of natural and cultural areas. We present these destinations, their special features and selected offers.

What distinguishes the Swisstainable destinations?

Swisstainable destinations meet the requirements of the Swisstainable programme and are committed to sustainable tourism development in different ways. The prerequisite for the classification is a clearly defined commitment to sustainable tourism development. This includes a certain proportion of classified Swisstainable service providers such as hotels, restaurants, mountain railways or outdoor sports providers in the destination. This proportion varies depending on the level. The programme includes three levels – from the entry level to the highest programme level. Level III – leading sets the highest requirements and requires a recognised sustainability certificate. In addition, all Swisstainable destinations are anchoring sustainable tourism development in their strategy, implementing concrete measures at destination level and informing their guests about their activities in this area.
