Glacier Weekend

The largest glacier in the Alps, the Aletsch Glacier, lies untouched within the UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch. Over the course of three days, we dedicate ourselves to this ice giant, hiking across the crunching ice, encountering tiny glacier fleas and roaring meltwater, always accompanied by an impressive mountain backdrop. We meet on Friday around midday at the Jungfraujoch. From there, we set off towards the Konkordiahütte, which we reach after about four to five hours of hiking. We spend the first night at the Konkordiahütte (shared dormitory). On Saturday, we set off early in the morning from the Konkordiahütte across the vast ice sea to the Märjelensee. After leaving the glacier at the Märjelensee and taking a lunch break, we hike to Villa Cassel, always with a view of the glacier. In total, we are on the move for 8–10 hours on this day. We spend the second night at the historic Villa Cassel. On Sunday, we descend (approx. 450 metres in altitude) to the Grünsee. Here, we have the opportunity to cross the suspension bridge and marvel at the roaring meltwater of the Great Aletsch Glacier below us. After a lunch break, we hike back up through the Aletsch Forest to the Riederfurka. The weekend concludes at around 3:00 PM. Participants Min.: 10 Max.: 20 The tour from the Jungfraujoch via the Konkordiahütte to the Riederalp does not require any prior mountaineering experience. However, good sure-footedness in pathless terrain, a head for heights and sufficient stamina are prerequisites for participation.
