Lake Grindji / Lake Grindje
Hint
Intro
At an altitude of 2,334m, this is one of several mountain lakes with a view of the Matterhorn at the foot of the Rothorn in Zermatt. It is located just below the tree line and is surrounded by western larches that change colour from bright green in the summer months to golden in autumn and snow-white in winter.
Lake Grindji / Lake Grindje at a glance
The best time to visit this tranquil mountain lake is early in the morning. This is the time of day, when the Matterhorn is reflected most beautifully on the lake's surface. In the afternoon, the lake reflects the Strahlhorn and other mountains between the larches.
Lake Grindji can be reached either by hiking the trail from Sunnegga over a gentle climb or down from Blauherd. A slightly longer route leads across the valley from Riffelalp, at the foot of the Gornergrat, up to the mountain lake.
