You will find yourself immersed in a rich history as soon as you enter the old town of Murten through the Berntor gate. This feeling persists as you stroll through the alleys lined with baroque townhouses. The main street with its arcade arches is particularly beautiful. Sample a piece of Nidelkuchen, a Murten speciality, in one of the cafés. Passing flower-adorned fountains, you eventually come to the castle, where the Lindensaal terrace offers a fantastic view of Lake Murten. You can bring the day to a close with an aperitif on the beautiful lakeside promenade.

Lake Murten are sure to get you into holiday mood. Enjoy a swim in the lake at the Murten lido, where the water reaches pleasant temperatures even in early summer. Lake Murten is also popular for
aquatic sports such as windsurfing, wakeboarding and stand-up paddling. Alternatively, you could take a boat trip: Lasting approximately one hour, the lake tour takes you past sun-drenched vineyards and the Grosser Moos, the largest vegetable growing area in Switzerland. There are wonderful views of the town of Murten from the boat.

The historic fortifications are a highlight of any visit to the old town. The walkable ramparts with 12 fortress towers surround the upper part of the old town. The climb to the wall is definitely worthwhile: You will have a magnificent view over the roofs of the old town and the lake and learn interesting facts about the history of Murten from the information panels.
