Atavism at twilight (Obsessional Phenomenon)
The “Atavism at Twilight” painting is based on Dalí’s long study of the “Angélus” picture by Jean-François Millet, which shows a farmer and his wife in a field during evening prayers. Dalí takes the figures and objects from Millet but composes them into a scene of horror. As a surrealist Dalí was all about alienating reality and also depicting the subconscious.
