Swiss towns and cities are transformed into a vibrantly coloured festival during carnival time (“Fasnacht”), with each celebrating its own customs and traditions. But they all share one thing in common: enjoyment and high spirits.

The fools’ carnival

Carnival is a special time in Olten. The head fool opens the carnival at the Naareschtopf, giving the go-ahead for the start of its feature-packed programme: a lantern festival, Schnitzelbank evening, fools’ party and lots more besides.
