Eiger Mönch & UrSchwyz feat. Alder Buebe – Heimatklänge #1
Overview
Intro
A summit meeting of Swiss string music
Four young women, four string instruments and the odd Schwyzerörgeli - that's Eiger Mönch & UrSchwyz. This extraordinary folk music ensemble has developed a captivating sound by combining traditional idioms with contemporary elements: rustic, experimental and groovy at the same time. They have released their first studio album entitled "Nordwind", in which they play original compositions, Nordic pieces and some old Muotathal dances. All four musicians studied at renowned universities in Bern, Zurich and Lucerne. At the request of the four women in the quartet, we have invited the famous Appenzell string band Alder Buebe to this concert, bringing together two very different Swiss folk music traditions in a creative exchange.
The Alder Buebe come from the over 130-year-old tradition of the Alder music dynasty from Urnäsch. Like all folk musicians in the past, they have constantly renewed and expanded the unique Appenzell string music. The Alder Buebe are a living example of the mutability of folk music in a long family tradition.
Every concert in the "Heimatklänge" series is a unique experience. The ambitious program is now entering its third season. The focus is once again on the highlights of new Swiss folk music, which always guarantee surprising musical experiences. Highly talented musicians with the necessary vision have thoroughly dusted off the Heimatklänge and created completely new sound horizons. Two groups will perform at each of the four concerts.
One traditional and one that creates something new from the traditional. They meet with great enthusiasm and respect for each other. They are all driven by the same basic idea that one's own roots are still the most beautiful foundation. The concerts in this series are a real treat, and not just for fans of new Swiss folk music. There is just as much room for down-to-earth music as for sophisticated light music.
