Leiternweide-Hängebrückenweg
Overview
Intro
On this diverse hike, ruins allow you a glimpse of the past, a bridge at a dizzying height will make you hold your breath and cave explorers hearts' will skip a beat. A hike right in the middle of beautiful, intact nature.
Description
From Weissenburg station follow the carefully restored dry stone wall until you reach the front Weissenburg bath. An old section of ruins from the previously imposing Grand Hotel Weissenburg Bad remains where the Queen of the Netherlands stayed in 1936 with Crown Princess Juliana. The newly-constructed wooden pavilion is peppered with interesting information about the drinking and bathing culture of the time. Then continue to the rear bath, where the foundations of the former bath have been uncovered and restored. Interesting guides are offered by Verein Bad and Thermalquelle Weissenburg.
Walking along the Buschbach stream you reach a small suspension bridge which brings hikers over the Morgetenbach, before climbing up to Leiternweide. Where previously ladders were attached to the rocks, stairs have now been installed to secure the hiking path. Once you've arrived at the top, the path takes you on over the suspension bridge, which was opened in 2013. The 111m long bridge takes you back over the Morgetenbach stream, which winds its way through the gorge 111m below.
On the way into the village of Oberwil, you pass the famous Höhlenpfad (cave path). The Mamilchloch and Schnurenloch caves will make those little cave explorer hearts skip a beat. There are also interesting tours offered by Oberwil tourism. The route from here to Oberwil station goes across green pastures.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
