Lötschberg-Panoramaweg
Overview
Intro
Four very varied days in the Lötschberg region. Sniff railway aromas high above the Kandertal, experience the rugged Gasteretal with all your senses. After crossing the Lötschengletscher (glacier), classic panoramic hike on the Lötschentaler Höhenweg.
Description
The Lötschberg-Panoramaweg route is definitely diverse! From the Bernese Oberland into the Valais, a four-day tour menu to suit all tastes: a hike though a green, pre-Alpine region and the wild Gasteretal, crossing a glacier and climbing up into a world of smooth cliffs, finally looking into the middle of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn UNESCO World Heritage.
Easy first stage from Kiental to Kandersteg. Views down into the Kandertal, where the Lötschbergbahn trains roll through the landscape like a model railway. Gradual approach to the Alpine regions on the hike through the Gasteretal. This rugged high-Alpine valley is encircled by steep cliffs, the many arms of the meandering Kander seeking their way through a valley floor full of detritus and boulders. Lovely spots to discover at the water and a wealth of flora in spring.
The king’s stage is the longest section on the Lötschenpass, the history-steeped pass from the Bernese Oberland into the Valais. The first highlight is the Lötschengletscher (glacier) traverse with the stunning panorama of the Bietschhorn and Mischabel group no less impressive. The route continues through glacier-eroded terrain up to Lauchernalp to merge seamlessly with the popular Lötschentaler Höhenweg. A true classic and a worthy finale to the Lötschberg-Panoramaweg.
