Nordspitze Panoramaweg
Overview
Intro
This walking tour combines history and botany. The route goes past the protected botanical gem called «Tannbüel» to the northernmost point of Switzerland, the historical landmark number 593.
Description
The start, and also the destination of this hike is Bargen, the northernmost village of Switzerland. Bargen is not a typical border town, it has retained its original agricultural character - despite access to the motorway. The village, as well as the whole of the route is located within the protection zone of the Randen foothills.
The historical landmark number 593 is located in the centre. At this «Black Stone», as the landmark is often called in popular jargon, exiled or condemned people were deported to Germany by the Schaffhausen nobility in former times.
On the trail enjoy both unforgettable views of the Swiss Alps in the south and the beauty of the local Randen forest. The protected botanical jewel, «Tannbuel», is known for its more than 20 different varieties of orchid which are in full bloom in the months of May and June. Besides the orchids, with the Lady's Slipper as the main variety, several other flowers and plants bloom in this area.
Furthermore, internationality also plays an important role. The entire route alternates between the countries of Switzerland and Germany. Grill your food at the picnic area by the landmark on Swiss soil, and eat it on German territory – and there are not more than five metres in between.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
