Intro
The ascent to Osteregg and Zimmermannslauftegg is not the easiest. But once you reach the top, the effort is soon forgotten. A stunning view stretching from the Appenzell hills all the way to Lake Constance is your reward.
Description
After starting out, you leave the village of Urnäsch behind you metre for metre. But be sure to look back, because the view behind you – across the village with the Appenzell railway winding in a semicircle through the landscape – is not to be missed. In a short while, you pass the ski slopes, where you can watch locals swoop down to the valley below.
The mountain inn in Osteregg with its sunny terrace provides an inviting spot for your first rest stop, complete with a view of the snow-topped Kronberg. On the next stretch, the tour leads through an idyllic forest up to Zimmermanns-Lauftegg. At the top, the highest point of the hike is reached and the break is well deserved. The Appenzell hills spread out before you, with vistas reaching all the way to Lake Constance. In the summer, cows graze on the alpine pastures. But now you will hear neither barking dogs nor cow bells. Pause for a while to enjoy the tranquil silence of winter.
The trail descends to the Blattendürren inn at the foot of the Petersalp, between the Kronberg and Spitzli. The cosy inn is the destination of the winter hike.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
