Descripción
This stage starts in Trin Digg. It soon goes off-road. The gravel path leads past the so-called «Toblerone» tank barriers towards Val Pintrun. The expression comes from the fact that the anti-tank barriers look like the bars of the famous Swiss chocolate. You cross the river Flem here, but you can barely see the wild gorge around 100 metres downstream.
Further down the gravel road, completely untouched by the traces of the Flims landslide, you see the highlight of this stage: the viewing point that looks out across the Ruinaulta. About 10,000 years ago, one of the largest known landslides in the world occurred here. Limestone rocks the size of 12-13 Matterhorns filled the Rhine, formed a lake near Ilanz and finally created the unique Rhine Gorge with its steep, white and bizarre limestone rocks.
You can admire the Vorderrhein winding through the landscape, the impressive rock faces and the trains of the Rhaetian Railway from the viewing platform.
Shortly afterwards comes the descent to Sagogn of around 400 metres, followed by an ascent through the wild Val da Mulin to Laax. You pass the Sogn Giacun chapel here, which was built in 1503. The old connecting path between Sagogn and Laax once served to bring the deceased to the cemetery of the Sagogn parish church. This is why it was not only a trail for people and animals, but was also known as the path of the dead.
The last part of this stage once again runs via a gravel road to the destination for this stage in Laax (Falera). A short detour to the megalithic Bronze Age complex is recommended. With over 34 erected stones, this facility is one of the largest astronomical centres in Switzerland.
