Trans Swiss Trail
Sinopsis
With its many fountains, alleys, historic towers and arcades, Bern exudes a unique medieval atmosphere. Probably the most beautiful view over the UNESCO listed old town, which is encircled by the river Aare, is offered from the raised rose garden above the Bärengraben or from the platform of the 101-metre-high Münster tower. The hike to Worb, in itself rich in fauna, also starts at the Bärengraben, a bear park offering these animals, also found on the city’s coat of arms, a 6000 m2 outdoor enclosure.
On the section along the banks of the Aare, you should make sure to take a look back. The Federal Palace with its characteristic dome is the seat of the Swiss government and parliament. In the central domed hall and in the two council chambers, there are numerous symbolic representations of Swiss history. The next highlight soon follows: as if out of nowhere, pelicans, ibexes, Bezoar goats, wild boars and other animals suddenly appear. You are now in the Dählhölzli animal park. To be precise, on the edge of the zoo, which was established in 1937 and adopted the motto "More space for fewer animals".
Continuing along the course of the river, you walk past the Zopfen floodplain, the Auguet bridge and the Augut floodplain. The wooden Auguet bridge was built in 1836 and used to be in Hunziken until 1974. Since the bridge there as part of the Rubigen - Belp connection was replaced with a concrete bridge, this bridge could be put to use to connect Muri and Belp. And so the former Hunziken bridge became the popular Auguet bridge. After about two hours, the hiking trail branches off to the left and leaves the bank of the Aare. Crossing the motorway, you reach Allmendigen b. Bern. The extensive farmland offers a pretty contrast to the alpine chain behind. Now follows the last bit through the Wisle forest, and the hike ends in Worb after about four eventful hours.
