World premiere
With its provocative title «Trennt euch!» (“Break up!”), the Zurich author Thomas Meyer made a strong impact in 2017. Today, the Bernese composer Christian Henking transforms it into a captivating musical theatre work. The libretto, written by the author himself, translates his reflections on honesty and the necessity of separation into a dynamic and vivid stage form. Henking, known for his finely crafted compositions often influenced by chamber music, unfolds a clear and expressive musical language.
In recent years, TOBS! has achieved several notable successes with Swiss opera creations, including «Eiger» by Fabian Müller and «Derborence». by Daniel Andres. With «Trennt euch!», a new original work by two talented Swiss artists comes to the stage. For Christian Henking, this is already his second commission for TOBS! after «Figaro¿» in 2014.
The production is directed by Deborah Epstein, who has already delighted TOBS! audiences through numerous theatre and opera productions, including Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”. The musical direction is in the hands of Josephine Korda, winner of the Neeme Järvi Prize at the 2025 Menuhin Festival Gstaad.
