What Can Songs Do in Times of War? Laments, resistance songs – such as those of the Italian Resistenza – and marching songs can serve different functions during and after armed conflicts. They create different atmospheres and evoke emotions in many ways.
Together with choir director Maayan Baram, we will explore songs from different contexts and cultures that are sung in connection with armed conflicts or that recall them. We will listen to songs and talk about them before trying them out together through singing. What moods and emotions can these songs convey? And what can singing do in the context of war and conflict?
Participants are invited to bring along songs that make them think of war or conflict. There is no expectation that these songs can be sung or performed. The workshop will be held in both German and English.
