Lötschental 1905–2025

A Photographic Stroll
Particularly fascinating is the comparison between two photographers: In 1906 and 1907, the mountaineer Charles Seltzer took numerous photographs in the Lötschental, focusing not only on the mountains but also on the people and their villages. In the summer of 2000, mountaineer Kurt Rickli followed in Seltzer’s footsteps and took photographs from the same vantage points as Seltzer had nearly a century earlier. The result is an insightful documentation of continuity and change in the Lötschental. The exhibition is complemented by photographs by Rudolf Kirsch from the 1930s and by recent images by Patrick Henzen.
