A lively, offbeat history of Nyon
Directed by Pierrick Sorin, who also plays almost all the roles, this film has the modest ambition of summing up some of the key features of Nyon's history.
A succession of amusing sketches bring to life both well-known and anonymous characters, all of whom, in their own way, have shaped the town's history. Pierrick Sorin was born in Nantes in 1960. He grew up to become a video artist, set designer and stage director. In 2007, for the Château des Ducs de Bretagne in his home town, he made a film similar to the one we are presenting today.
This led us to ask Pierrick Sorin to create a similar piece, illustrating the history of our town over the centuries in an offbeat way, with its castle as a backdrop, and Lake Geneva as the protagonist in the foreground. Thus, on various boats, in an increasingly anarchic navigation, parade those who have made Nyon or are representative of it: among them, our ancestors the "Lacustres", supposedly fierce here, Julius Caesar, founder of the Colonia Julia Equestris, a worker from the Diamond match factory, and, as a neighbor, Madame de Staël, the Baroness of Coppet. There's also a valiant knight, a member of the Cossonay-Prangins dynasty, the first owners of Nyon castle, Gustave Falconnier, juggling his glass bricks, as well as Jean-Luc Godard and Auguste Piccard, who inspired Hergé's well-known Professor Tournesol. All this mixed with projections by Visions du Réel, teapots from the porcelain factory and a final fireworks display, as every year at Paléo.
