The four series presented as part of this exhibition are grouped under the title “Seuil.”The pivotal moment when one’s perception of self ceases to be self-evident does not necessarily lead to a completed state; rather, it marks a transition, a moment of unstable equilibrium, a space of tension where complex—and sometimes conflicting—realities reveal their ambiguity.Focusing on areas of tension—particularly those that cut across the construction of identity and power relations—some of these works draw on real or documented situations.Others arise from images that emerge uninvited, thus following a logic that could be described as surrealist.The first series, titled “Dimension 2.5,” dates from the early 2000s and features two-layered images evoking metamorphosis, transition, and “passing.” In “Pro Corpore Florem,” a young man is confronted with his own reflection; between presence and representation, interiority and the externalization of the self, the mirror becomes a space of doubling where identity, far from solidifying its contours, fragments.The “Liminal” series continues, many years later, this quest for a meaning left in limbo. The portraits, inspired by Sébastien Lifshitz’s documentary “Petite fille,” depict a child who, from a very young age, is on a journey of transition. The aim here is not to illustrate a debate, much less to take a stance, but to make perceptible the moment when a body and an identity in the making coexist, caught between self-assertion, vulnerability, and suffering.Inspired by encounters with ambiguous figures—both real and fictional—this exploration continues in the series “Noirs” and “Jolies Filles,” where the same uncertainty persists: that of identities captured at the very moment their contours begin to blur.Opening reception: Friday, November 13, starting at 5:00 p.m.
