Untitled. In memory of Urs Graf
In 1963 standard fluorescent tubes became the base material for Dan Flavin‘s (1933–1996) works. “What you see is what you get” he said to express the credo of minimal art. He maintained that art has to be without emotions, rational – not to convey content and meaning, but merely pointing out reality. And yet, by a dedication in the title, Flavin often added an additional level to his creations. “Untitled. In memory of Urs Graf” refers to Swiss artist Urs Graf (around 1485–1529). The Museum’s collection contains some important works by Graf.
