Val Müstair
Visão geral
Introdução
From Zernez the route leads through the unique National Park to Tschierv. You then reach Val Müstair with its world-famous St. Johann Monastery in Müstair. Finally you cross the border into Vinschgau and travel on through the pretty little towns to Mals.
Descrição
The cycle route starts in Zernez in the Unterengadin, the gateway to the Swiss National Park. From here you ride through the National Park on the scenically spectacular Ofenpass road, along the Spölschlucht gorge and through extensive mountain pine forests before reaching the highest point, Süsom Give (2149 m above sea level). Here, it’s well worth leaving your bicycle for a day and exploring the National Park on foot. Deer, chamois and ibex wait to be discovered.
From Tschierv the route leads along the undeveloped and natural River Rombach through the old authentic villages of Fuldera, Valchava and Sta. Maria to Müstair. These villages, so rich in culture, with houses built in true Engadin style and decorated with traditional Sgraffitto, make a short stop well worthwhile. Müstair awaits with the cultural highlight of the tour: the UNESCO World Heritage, the St. Johann Monastery dating from Carolingian times.
The route leads from Müstair over the border into nearby Vinschgau. It then continues through areas of orchards and past medieval castles and small towns of architectural interest. Taufers and the medieval town of Mals are the major highlights of this stage.
