A popular destination close to Zermatt, suitable for mountaineers and non-mountaineers alike. The cable car makes the way up easier, making the Breithorn one of the easiest four-thousanders to climb.
The Breithorn is the easiest four-thousander in the Alps. That’s why the locals talk of “Breithoru-Liit” (Breithorn folk) when speaking about someone they can’t trust with anything more than the Breithorn. The Breithorn is made up of five peaks connected together by a glaciered ridge. One of these is the Central Breithorn (4,156m a.s.l.) to the east of the main summit, which is the second-highest peak after the Western Breithorn. The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise upper station makes the ascent, which takes around two hours, considerably easier.
