The object of the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel (CDN) is to collect, preserve and promote Dürrenmatt’s pictorial work. Located in vallon de l’Ermitage, the building has been designed by Mario Botta. It encompasses the house where Friedrich Dürrenmatt and his family lived from 1952 until death.

The CDN presents a permanent exhibition devoted to Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s artistic oeuvre. Exhibitions presenting artists pursuing combined visual and written avenues of exploration are regularly mounted here. As a space devoted to encouraging reflection and the exchange of ideas, the CDN schedules colloquiums, lectures and readings touching upon themes that are present in Dürrenmatt’s work. Often, too, the Centre hosts concerts.

Serving as a venue for exhibitions and events, the CDN also acts as a research centre furthering critical approaches to the Swiss playwright’s literary and artistic accomplishments.
