简介
The focus is on the history of the city and region of St. Gallen (city model, linen industry). Other topics include the history of medicine in St. Gallen, Swiss porcelain (18th century), and costumes.
The St. Gallen Cultural Museum houses one of the most significant cultural-historical collections in Eastern Switzerland. A key focus is the history of the city and region of St. Gallen (city model, linen industry). Other highlights include the history of medicine in St. Gallen, Swiss porcelain (18th century), and costumes. The original historic rooms provide a special touch.
The ethnology department offers encounters with ethnic groups from around the globe. A significant portion of the objects are donations from residents of St. Gallen. Two internationally renowned collectors, Han Coray and Eduard von der Heydt, are represented in the collection.
“The Fascination of Archaeology” offers an introduction to the archaeology of the canton and the city. A major focus is on the excavations of recent years (Rapperswil, Weesen, St. Gallen’s Old Town). An interactive lab explains how archaeologists arrive at their findings. The Cultural Museum places great emphasis on providing a wide range of activities for families and children (children’s museum, museum education programs).
