A rack-railroad starts at Montreux and continues past forests, meadows and rocks up to Rochers-de-Naye. Once one reaches the top, there is a panoramic view of the Swiss and French Alps. And there is the opportunity for numerous hikes or sightseeing trips.
Nearly 1000 different mountain plant species from all over the world can be admired in the Alpine Garden "La Rambertia", which was inaugurated in 1896. Visitors gain insight into the life of 14 different marmot species in the Marmot Paradise. The panorama restaurant "Plein Roc", which offers a marvelous view of Lake Geneva, is reached through a tunnel, and as a special experience, visitors can stay overnight in Mongolian yurts.

Dear John Robson, never underestimate any slope or hill, but please again do not overestimate the risks of trekking in Rochers-de-Naye :). It is a lovely track with the living coffeehause on the near to summit and wonderful train facility as an alternative to climbing up and down. Try it with respect to nature and you will make your day. Cheers

I am not a professional hiker; so I will not write on hiking in Rochers-de-Naye. Anyway, I found it another experience to stay overnight in a Mongolian Jurt. To stay in a yurt, though may not be as comfortable, but it brought back the feeling of childhood that like to stay out of the building and feel the natural environment. Shower and restroom facilities are still located inside the building. At night I saw thousands of stars just like they were hanging on the ceiling of the bedroom. The night view of Montreux was also magnificent. I bet that a lot of people who live in Montreux did not have a chance to see the view of their city like this. The dinner at restaurant "Plien Roc" really give panoramic view of the sky, Lake Geneva, Montain range in France, and of course, Montreux. There is a little Alpine Garden called "La Rambertis" that cultivate more than 1,000 kind of Mountaineous plants from all over the world and especially from Switzerland itself. Among these plants there are 2 types of Edelweiss and 600 local varieties.The site is open between June to mid-October but the best time maybe up to end of August. Also, there is a little zoo called " Marmottoes Paradis" which give you a chance to see these lovely but so shy mountain inhabitants.

I would not advise anyone to hike from Rochers de Naye. The paths are near vertical for long distances, and quite dangerous. After sliding down scree, I ripped my trousers, and walked into C and A in Montreux (to purchase a new pair of trousers) wearing a carrier bag around my waist.. The more serious part of this adventure was the steepness of the paths from the summit. I kept going thinking going on down would be better than retracing my steps----big mistake, the vertical keeps on going! Be warned. Walk from further down by all means, but do not start at the top. If you look upwards from Montreux, you can see the vertical cliff you have to negotiate from the summit.

A truly special place in the hearts of my family. The whole Rochers-de-Naye experience will last long in your memory too! From the absolutely wonderful funicular train ride up the mountain with awe-inspiring vistas over Lake Geneva (Lac Leman), to the amazing views of the distant Alps up top, including the Monch, Jungfraujoch and Eiger the whole place is a wonder of Switzerland! Hugely underateted, hugely worth it!
