Jura Bike
Overview
Intro
On the way from St-Ursanne to Saignelégier, it is the Doubs again that defines the Jura Bike route, but only on the first half. Then the Franches Montagnes are taking over and together they reflect all the expectations that many have of the Jura.
Description
The start of this section is similar to the end of the previous day, always along the banks of the Doubs river and far away from any hectic civilisation. The Doubs has carved its way deep into the countryside, but then, the trail finally begins to rise. Instead of branching off back to the river bank, the route now climbs high up to the plateau of the Franches Montagnes. The area is known for its dry stone walls, remote farmhouses and the native horses of the region. The route continues just as one would picture. The Jura region could not be more typical. The path keeps going, sometimes on trails, sometimes on gravel or short distances on small roads, all the way to Saignelégier. The town still shows signs of the long-ago heyday of watch-making, large buildings bear witness to the industrialisation of that time. By the way, to this day, the watches of the Maurice Lacroix brand are still made here in Saignelégier.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
