Intro

On the right the rugged Schrattenfluh, on the left the Brienzer Rothorn range – your constant companions on this winter hike. First from Rossweid to Salwideli, the trail then follows the Bärselbach and Emme streams to Kemmeribodenbad. The former health resort is now famous for its meringues.

Description

The cable car takes you from Sörenberg up to Rossweid with its mountain restaurant. Having arrived at 1463 metres, the route continues on relatively level terrain and in gentle bends to Salwide, where the hiking trail, together with the snowshoe trail, leads steadily downhill to Salwideli. If you feel like it, you can take a first break at the mountain restaurant in the middle of the ski area.

Once you reach the Bärselbach stream, the route continues along it to Schneebergli and crosses it there. Now the trail leads through a forested corridor around the Chüblisbüel summit. The region is dominated by rock faces that are steeped in legend. Its somewhat harsher landscape sets it apart from the rolling hills of the rest of the Emmental valley.

Via Schönisei, the trail then runs along the Emme stream. On cold days, parts of the river are frozen over, and the gorge carved out by the water is decorated with icicles. Through the snow-covered nature scenery, you reach the destination of the hiking tour in the idyllic spring area of the Emme: the former health resort of Kemmeriboden. Discovered more than 200 years ago, this mineral spring is still used by the country inn. Up until the late 1980s it was a famous health resort sought out by people plagued by illness, but now it is a destination for day trippers who visit the canton for its famed meringue desserts (known well beyond the area) or to take a hike through the white winter splendor.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
