Description
World-famous pianist Keith Jarrett called the Willisau Jazz Festival «One of the best places for music in the world.» Since it was founded in 1975, it has been one of the most renowned events in the contemporary jazz scene. As well as the crisp Willisau Ringli, another reason to pay a visit to the attractive small town before your bike tour.
It is easy to ride enthusiastically along by the nature conservation pond in Ostergau. And the pools sound merrily when the frogs sing... They form several thousand eggs into spawning balls, which the newts lay on the aquatic plants. The small Ostergau Lake was formed between the moraines a long time ago, but it soon silted up again. What remained was a swamp or moor area. During the Second World War, more than two tons of peat were mined here for fuel.
As you ride through the hilly landscape of the Upper Rottal valley, the small Soppisee lake in the largest farming community in Switzerland is a real feast for the eyes. Ruswil showed a great deal of solidarity in 2020 with «shopping service» and «telephone chain» and won the «Swiss Village of the Year» competition. And last but not least, it is a great deal of fun to stroll through this rustic area. There is a pretty little chapel at the Spitzhof on Brunauerberg. In the wider area: llamas, cows, strutting geese and cats as well as chickens, goats, rabbits, horses and ponies, sheep, dogs, yaks and jays. Admiring everything for free, what more could you want?
More views perhaps? Whether from Brunauerberg or Littauerberg – the view of the Alpine panorama in the distance is superb. Things only get busier in Emmenbrücke. To say that at the Reusszopf, you can no longer see the sky because of all the bicycle signs would be a bit of an exaggeration. But they give it that certain something. Thanks to tons of concrete, a solid line of cars rolls along relentlessly in Lucerne North. Nevertheless, it is possible to sit comfortably by the river: in the «Reusszopf recreation and leisure zone» there is a football field, playing fields, children’s playground, barbecue areas, boules pitch and summer bar, right on the flat river bank!
The cycle and pedestrian paths are narrow at times, especially during rush hour or at sunny weekends. It is worth dismounting from your bike between the railway track and the Reuss to watch the animal traffic on the river. For example, the proud swans and ducks with their young in tow. Back on your bike, Lucerne, the destination for this stage, soon follows. The metropolis on Lake Lucerne is considered one of the most attractive cities in Switzerland. Cosy town houses, old wooden bridges and hotels from the stunning «Belle Époque» give an impression of this.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
