Gross Grünhorn (4,044m a.s.l.)
Hint
Intro
The Gross Grünhorn sits in the Bernese Alps – but belongs to the canton of Valais. This is a multifaceted four-thousander peak with several appealing routes.
Description
The Gross Grünhorn was climbed for the first in 1865. And many people still make the ascent to the peak (4,044m a.s.l.) today. Many of the routes use the Konkordia hut, which can be reached from Fiesch, as a base. Although this four-thousander sits in the Bernese Alps, it is actually part of the canton of Valais. The Gross Grünhorn gets its name from its peak. This consists of amphibolite rock encased in green hornblende.
