A visit to the Baroque Days Solothurn
Overview
Intro
Steep yourself in history and experience baroque with all of your senses – all this is possible at the Baroque Days in Solothurn. The August event celebrates history and honours the baroque lifestyle. Scenic tours, concerts showcasing historical musical instruments, lectures, games and workshops – the varied programme offers something for everyone.
Solothurn is rightly considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland. Between 1530 and 1792, the ambassadors of the French kings resided in Solothurn, which strongly influenced the city’s architecture. Magnificent baroque buildings such as churches, monasteries and castles give the city its special atmosphere. And since 2021, the city has been bringing the splendour of the past to life once a year. For nine days in August, Solothurn is entirely dedicated to baroque history, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the baroque joie de vivre.
Discover, marvel and experience at first hand: the varied programme explores all facets of baroque life. Scenic tours complete with exciting stories and playful anecdotes stir up emotions and bring the past to life. A traditional soirée offers an evening full of music, dance and fine food, reviving the glamour of the past. During a cooking or baking class, participants can learn traditional techniques of times gone by while enjoying culinary highlights. For those interested in music, there are concerts featuring traditional musical instruments and various dance classes. The historic marketplace serves as a popular meeting place: the washerwomen gossip at the fountain, drummers and pipers play traditional marching music, fencing masters duel with their rivals, characters dressed in baroque attire stroll through the city, and merchants sell their wares.
The Baroque Days Solothurn promise not only historically rich experiences, but also delicious dishes, lively stories and unforgettable evenings. A particularly versatile spectacle that reignites the baroque joie de vivre.
