Christmas in Basel
Overview
Intro
Anyone who strolls through the historic old town, sees the lovingly decorated houses and the festively adorned shop windows, will be enchanted by the magic of Basel at Christmas time.
The city on the Rhine unfolds its very special charm during the Advent season. The Christmas market on Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz has long been a firm fixture for visitors in the run-up to Christmas. Nestled in the historic old town, traders and artisans offer their wares in rustic wooden chalets.
Culinary delights are also on offer, be it a Swiss raclette or a cup of mulled wine. The Christmas market also has plenty of decorations to offer. There is a magnificent Christmas tree on Münsterplatz. It was decorated by the well-known Basel decorator Johann Wanner.
Decorated courtyards, so-called "Magical Courtyards", invite you to enjoy the atmospheric ambience in a peaceful setting. In addition, the traditional Christmas lights in Freie Strasse and St. Alban-Tal enchant anew every year. In Rheingasse, the "Adväntsgass im Glaibasel" invites you to enjoy a cozy get-together and from the Pfalz you can enjoy the view of the Rhine and the city.
