BearPark Berne (BärenPark)
Overview
Intro
The BearPark is one of the top attractions in the middle of Bern. You can watch real brown bears up close – right on the banks of the Aare with a view of the old town. Discover the extensive grounds with the "BäreBähnli".
The Bear Park at a glance
Real brown bears in the middle of Bern – that's what you can find in the BearPark, which covers around 5000 square metres. The species-appropriate terrain extends down to the Aare promenade and is barrier-free thanks to the "BäreBähnli" panoramic inclined lift. The BearPark is accessible free of charge all year round. The heraldic animal of Bern? A bear, of course. What to experience
Visit the Bear Park (1-2 hours)
From summer to late autumn, you can watch real brown bears foraging, climbing trees, bathing in the Aare Canal or taking a nap. From November to March, the bears are in hibernation in their den. From the park rangers you will learn more about the behaviour of the animals and the history of the Bear Park.
- Good to know: The bears get enough rich food – please do not feed them.
- Tip: In midsummer, there is food frozen in water for the bears as "bear ice cream".
On the way around the BearPark (30-60 minutes)
Discover the area around the BearPark. In the panorama inclined lift, called "BäreBähnli", you float past the Bären to the Aare. The riverside path offers you a fantastic view of Bern's old town. Alternatively, you can walk towards the Nydegg Bridge, where information boards will give you an understanding of the history of the Bear Park.
- Good to know: You can use the barrier-free panorama lift free of charge.
- Tip: You can walk in 25 minutes through the middle of Bern's old town to the BärenPark.
