Cavaglia Glacier Garden
Overview
Intro
The Palü Glacier created an extraordinary natural formation here in times long forgotten.
In Cavaglia, at the foot of the Bernina massif and the Piz Palü, are the Giants’ Pots, a very special jewel of Valposchiavo. The special glacier formations are the result of a natural phenomenon: over the course of thousands of years, gravel and debris, transported by the pressurized glacial water, have ground giant holes into the bedrock. The Glacier Garden can be found 500m south of Cavaglia train station and is easily accessible via a well-marked path.
A trail leads through the Cavaglia Gorge at the south-eastern end of the Cavaglia plateau. The gorge impresses with the bizarre shapes created by erosion. Visitors can admire the hollows formed by water whirlpools, the glacial mills and the huge rock overhangs.
Grummo, the friendly giant, awaits younger guests with his stamp trail for kids. And if they find out the secret of Grummo’s colossal size, they’ll even earn themselves a little prize.
