Intro
Enter the Choleren Gorge near Adelboden and climb along the roaring Tschentebach up to the exit of the gorge. Bridges and stairs lead you past waterfalls and spectacular rock formations.
The Choleren Gorge at a glance
The Tschentebach has dug deep into the rock near Adelboden. The approximately 100-metre-long Choleren Gorge is one of the wildest gorges in the Bernese Oberland. Waterfalls, watermills and smoothly polished rock formations line the way. The gorge is accessible from May to October and admission is free.
What to experience
Hike through the Choleren Gorge (20-30 minutes)
Take the bus from Adelboden or Frutigen to the Im Tregel stop. From there, a 15-minute walk leads to the entrance of the gorge. Climb the stairs and cross the bridges along the rugged rock faces. Below you, the water of the Tschentebach rushes through narrow crevices.
- Good to know: The gorge is only accessible from bottom to top, admission is free.
- Tip: Free parking is available at the Tregel car park.
Short circular hike from the Tregel car park (1–1.5 hours)
From the car park, you can reach the gorge in 15 minutes. After the crossing, it goes past the Pochtenkessel back to the starting point. The route is around 2.6 kilometres with 160 metres of ascent. The route is also suitable for families with children from about 6 years old.
- Good to know: At the fountain of youth below the gorge you can swim in the mountain stream.
