Engelberg-Titlis: The ultimate in snow sports fun, both on and off-piste
Overview
Intro
From the airport to a three-thousand-metre peak in just two hours? In Switzerland this too is possible - thanks to Engelberg-Titlis. Not only does it have a ski run at an altitude of 2,000 metres, the number of pistes is overwhelming. In particular, the countless freeride options are the best in the Alps.
“The winter in Engelberg is long and deep. The peaks are covered in snow from October to May. Due to its location, the winter storms from the northwest dump huge quantities of snow on Titlis.
The ski resort is also easily accessible. It's a mere one and a half hours to Engelberg from the Zurich airport. Thanks to the iconic Titlis Rotair and Titlis Express gondolas in just half an hour you can be 3,000 metres above sea level looking out over an endless variety of ski slopes. 82 kilometres of average to difficult pistes, or a 2,000 metre climb are only some of the highlights.
Freeride Eldorado
Blessed with so much snow and optimum terrain, Engelberg-Titlis is known around the world for its freeride options. The ‘Laub’ is famous among deep snow lovers as the downhill run par excellence. With an average gradient of between 32 and 38 degrees, the mountainside is a prime area for full powder turns, and the 1,000 metre descent on pure powder is a rare experience. If you're looking for a real adventure, then hire a local mountain guide to take you to the 'Big 5'. In one day your total descent will be almost 10,000 metres broken up into five different downhill runs.
Whether you like deep carving on the piste or kicking up a lot of spray on the powdery slopes and couloirs, at the end of the day you can meet up with local, holidaymakers, freeride pros and connoisseurs in the ski lodge, at Yucatan or in the glacier crevasse to toast your amazing experience. You can worry about your sore muscles later.”
