Tour of the Gamsen country wall - on the trail of a national cultural monument

The largest surviving "Letzi" in Switzerland, a wall that cut through the entire Valais near Gamsen, is one of the three cultural monuments of national importance in the municipality of Brig-Glis and an imposing structure from the late Middle Ages that is still far from revealing all its secrets.

Hand on heart, how many of you have heard of the Landmauer? How many of you have visited it? Who knew that it is a historical building of national importance? Who is aware that it is the largest surviving structure of its kind in Switzerland?

The Gamsen Country Wall Foundation takes you on a search for clues along the historic country wall and gives you a surprising insight into the often unknown history during a visit to the old Suste.

During a varied tour (1.2 km) with 9 stops, the Iischers Brigerbad Foundation provides exciting insights into the history of the village and thermal baths by means of historical buildings and the unique natural and cultural landscape of Brigerbad and shows the importance of the thermal springs, the Rhone and the vineyards both then and now. At the same time, visitors learn interesting facts about the biodiversity in Brigerbad, which results from the interplay of natural habitats on the slopes and in the valley. In keeping with the theme, the Foundation will present its existing and planned projects to preserve and promote these natural and cultural values.
