Intro
From October 24 to November 28, 2026, the R. Contemporary Art Gallery
From October 24 to November 28, 2026, the R. Coquibus Contemporary Art Gallery, located at the Château de Vaumarcus, presents “Matière à penser,” a special exhibition bringing together works by sculptor Ursula Nunez and visual artist Romain Coquibus.
Whether carved, engraved, painted, or transformed by light, the material reveals itself here in multiple forms, inviting viewers to engage in imagination, contemplation, and reflection.
Based in Bevaix, Ursula Nunez works primarily with uprooted grapevines that have become too old for production. Rather than imposing a form on the wood, the sculptor seeks out the form it already seems to contain. A curve, a crack, or a grain becomes the starting point for an organic sculpture in which the viewer can discern a silhouette or a presence. Trained in the visual arts in Peru and later at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, her international artistic career has unfolded across Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
Romain Coquibus, an artist based at the Château de Vaumarcus, continues his in-depth exploration of materials, techniques, and light in this exhibition. Brass, copper, glass, canvas, and paper serve as the medium for unique works that blend relief, transparency, and reflections. Some creations even hold a surprise: they transform with the light and offer a second interpretation in the dark.
Behind the delicacy and richness of detail—which initially invite contemplation—certain works also question our era and our perception of the world, particularly in the age of artificial intelligence. This dimension is particularly evident in a major new work by the artist: a contemporary reinterpretation of *The Thinker*.
