To mark the 100th anniversary of Rainer Maria Rilke's death, all the works in this exhibition in Raron Castle have been created anew and exclusively for the anniversary year. The artist Elisabeth Fux Mattig is inspired by Rilke's first cycle of poems, the "Duino Elegies" - texts full of depth, mystery and existential questions - and translates Rilke's poetic world into powerful, calligraphy-like pictorial forms in twelve large-format paintings on a black background. The works are reminiscent of monumental scrolls and make the infinite and open nature of his poetry tangible to the senses. Rilke's poems are presented graphically on large panels and set in relation to the paintings through bridging texts by Hubert Theler, creating a total work of art that brings literature and visual art into a lively dialog - accessible, touching and open to personal discoveries.
