Music that sounds how its creators intended, musicians who play with passion and devotion, concert-goers who treasure performances of outstanding quality in an unrivalled setting…
Three times a year, the world’s leading orchestras, conductors and soloists gather on the shores of Lake Lucerne for world-class musical events: “Lucerne Festival at Easter”, “Lucerne Festival in Summer” and, in November, “Lucerne Festival at the Piano”.
Much has changed, of course, in the 80 years of the Festival's existence. Its first season in 1938 included only ten concerts. Since then it has grown by leaps and bounds – more than 100,000 music lovers visit the Festival every year.
A Splendid Start for the Festival Year: The Easter Festival
The Easter Festival takes place every year for a week ending on Passion Sunday and is focused on sacred music, whether in the Salle blanche in the KKL on in concerts in the atmospheric ambience of churches around Lucerne. Is there a finer way to get in the mood for Easter than in Lucerne?
The Summer Festival Is a Magnet for the International Stars of Classical Music
LUCERNE FESTIVAL is the destination for a musical summit meeting. For the past 80 years, the Summer Festival has been presenting famous orchestras, legendary conductors, and virtuoso soloists. With a different thematic focus each summer, the Festival’s programming offers an extraordinarily wide spectrum, from Mozart to the contemporary, from early music to avant-garde experimentation, from symphony concerts in the evening to special events for children and youths and the free 40min concert series.
Pure Keyboard Magic: Master Pianists Gather in November for the Piano Festival
The Piano Festival is completely devoted to the art of the keyboard. Legendary masters and young upstarts, celebrated virtuosos and the philosophers of the keyboard – they all come to Lucerne in November to perform recitals and concerts featuring the piano. And Piano Off-Stage offers atmospheric nights of jazz in Lucerne’s finest bars and restaurants.
