The Shroud 2026 - Interactive media installation
Overview
Intro
The Shroud is a mixed reality project about knowledge and power. At its center is the heroine Seraina, who remains in mourning - and thus reveals more than just a personal fate.
The installation functions as a digital experience together with a physical book and can be experienced via an XR device. Perception, thoughts and emotions are an essential part of the production. At its center is Seraina, a heroine who is mourning her deceased child.
But her fate is about more than that: it is about the question of what place and what meaning is attributed to certain emotions, reactions and inner processes. The Shroud is about grief - not as a problem that needs to be solved, but as something that is perhaps suppressed too often and too quickly. Grief thus almost becomes the great absent - shrouded behind a colorful yet eerie veil.
Seraina's fate thus also presents itself as an allegory for relationships, exclusions and questions of power in connection with epistemic injustice. Grief becomes a blueprint for a mood of the times. AI also makes an appearance as a debatable - or just uncanny? - grief companion.
