The Smallest Things
Overview
Intro
Moost Company - Marc Oosterhoff & Owen Winship
*The Smallest Things* is a melancholic and humorous duo that, without artifice, creates a performance from scratch right before the audience’s eyes. In this new production, Marc Oosterhoff and Owen Winship perform on an almost bare stage. On stage are a few objects, a few spotlights, and a speaker to play sound. Little by little, they explore the possibilities offered by this environment. Something emerges from nothing. The two performers use what’s there, and thanks to their acrobatic bodies and a few props, gradually transform an empty space into a show made up of small feats and a few words. In this invitation to make do with what’s at hand, the two performers control the lighting and sound from the stage, giving the audience a glimpse into all the technical elements that make up the performance. The audience witnesses the assembly of the various elements that make up a scene while still having the opportunity to be emotionally moved by it. It’s a kind of shared illusion they embrace for the sheer joy of performance. These two men set out in search of wonder in the smallest things, without ever forgetting the audience. When all seems lost, and when our actions sometimes seem meaningless, this show chooses to cherish the little things that are right here, and to use our power to act to transform our environment into something… a little less lousy. They say the devil is in the details, but perhaps love or hope is too—who knows?
