Intro

Embark on a journey into the royal past, present, and future on this circular route and get to know Liechtenstein’s capital Vaduz from its princely side.

1. Royal cinema
At the “Altes Kino Vaduz”, old cinema charm meets state-of-the-art LED technology and offers wonderful insights behind the scenes of Vaduz Castle. On a virtual tour, viewers can experience a cinematic insight into Vaduz Castle and life behind the castle walls. Truly a princely experience that is the crowning highlight of a visit to Vaduz.

2. Treasure Chamber of the Principality of Liechtenstein
The Treasure Chamber of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Vaduz, the only museum of its kind in the Alps, displays unique objects that are closely associated with Liechtenstein and cannot be found anywhere else in this form and combination. The exhibition entitled “The Principality, the World and Outer Space” will show a selection of items from the Princely Collections, including works of art made using precious materials, historic weapons and opulent presents belonging to rulers such as Prince Friedrich II of Liechtenstein and Emperor Kaiser Joseph II of Austria.

3. Princely court winery
Relax during a leisurely stroll through the vines with a view of Vaduz Castle. The court winery of the Prince of Liechtenstein in Vaduz can be found in the Herawingert vineyard. Spanning four hectares of vineyards, the Herawingert is considered one of the best vineyards in the Rhine Valley. Enjoy a wine tasting to learn more about Liechtenstein’s wine culture and sample red and white wine made from locally grown grapes.

4. Path up to the castle and “Känzile” viewing platform
A well-maintained path leads directly from the town of Vaduz up to Vaduz Castle. The small, dream-like forest path leads uphill directly to the castle lawn, where the ceremony for the state holiday is celebrated every year on 15 August. From here, the stately seat of the prince appears, standing proud and powerful. The castle keep, south round bastion and hall rise above the imposing rocky outcrop at 570 metres above sea level.

5. Vaduz Castle
Vaduz Castle has symbolic significance as a landmark for the country of Liechtenstein and Liechtenstein’s monarchy. In 1938, the Liechtenstein family took up residence in the castle, which still serves as the residence of the reigning prince today. For this reason, it is not possible to explore the castle itself. Despite this, the exterior is well worth a visit, as is a stroll through the princely forest.

6. Parish Church St. Florin in Vaduz
Numerous members of the princely family were baptised and married in this three-aisled church, which dates back to the 19th century. The princely Crypt was erected in the park in 1960, and serves as a final place of rest for members of the Princely Family. At the foot of the steps leading up to the parish church, there is a statue of the princely couple, Prince Franz Josef II and Princess Georgine of Liechtenstein.

7. Princely tours
End the walk with the city backstage tour “Monarchy & Democracy” and learn more about the history of the Princely House, the monarchy in Liechtenstein and many other intriguing facts.
