Japanese garden
Overview
Intro
Hikers can admire the Japanese garden perched atop a glacial moraine deep in the Tortin Valley, south of Nendaz.
Two lateral moraines of the former glacier are still visible on the Tortin plateau. These are the small and large roof of Tortin, which were formed approximately 9,000 years ago. The Japanese garden is located on the peak of the large moraine and owes its name to its resemblance to a landscaped garden. This natural and tranquil landscape is one of a kind and has its very own ecosystem. Here hikers can enjoy glorious views of Mont Fort and of the rest of the Alps, as well as being charmed by the small stream that meanders down the valley. A shuttle bus service runs from Nendaz to the Siviez bus stop, where the hike starts. It takes three hours and twenty minutes in total (there and back).
