Lichthalle MAAG – Museum for Immersive Art
Overview
Intro
The Lichthalle MAAG in Zurich is the first permanent museum for immersive art in Switzerland. The new museum offers unique spaces as they have never been seen before in Switzerland – the highlights include 28 pre-installed high-performance projectors, unique 360° all-round projection and excellent acoustics.
Information technology has advanced to a degree that allows us to literally immerse ourselves in the work and world of painters thanks to video projections and other optical and acoustic means. Pixels replace brushstrokes, and the focus on magnified details and appropriately used animation and sound effects reveal new dimensions in an artist’s work.
Of course, a digital show cannot really replace an exhibition of originals, but it does lower the threshold for a wider public to access art at an emotional and sensory level, perhaps awakening a desire for more as part of the process. However, even seasoned art gallery visitors will enjoy immersing themselves in this virtual world.
Leonardo da Vinci
Uomo Universale
25.04.2024 - 20.10.2024
Artist, scientist, engineer, inventor - Leonardo da Vinci was a universal genius, first among the "uomini universali", as exceptional people were called in his native Italy.
Da Vinci epitomised this ideal image of man at the time of the Renaissance. What sets him apart from his famous contemporaries such as Michelangelo, Raphael and Botticelli is his versatility. From painting and engineering to mathematics and anatomy - through his precise observations, da Vinci captured ground-breaking ideas and moved the world with revolutionary inventions.
The exhibition "LEONARDO DA VINCI - UOMO UNIVERSALE" takes visitors on a journey through the life of the genius and shows, among other things, replicas of his numerous inventions and all the paintings that can be safely attributed to him today. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the immersive staging. More than 30 projectors bring the work and world of the universal genius to life. Viewers are immersed and experience the "uomo universale" like never before - entertaining, gripping, fascinating.
