Intro

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMCO) in Geneva has been the Swiss reference for contemporary art since the 1960s. In a former factory, you'll see works by Martin Kippenberger, Christo and Donald Judd.

The MAMCO at a glance

The MAMCO in Geneva shows art of the second half of the 20th century and the present in a former industrial building in the Quartier des Bains. The collection includes over 6000 works and ranges from minimal and concept art to concrete poetry. The museum is considered the most important institution of contemporary art in Switzerland.

What to experience

Roaming through the collection of the MAMCO

The tour of the collection spans 4 floors. You are standing in front of works by Martin Kippenberger, studies by Christo and strict forms by Donald Judd. The raw industrial rooms of the former factory form a harmonious framework for minimal, concept art and concrete poetry.

  • Good to know: The main building is under renovation until 2028. Exhibitions take place abroad.
  • Tip: The Quartier des Bains is home to other galleries; ideal for art walks.
