Altschwand Trail
Overview
Intro
Up to the Atzmännig and enjoy the views across the beautifully snowy foothills of the Alps – that’s what the Altschwand snowshoe hike offers.
Description
From Atzmännig mountain station, two snowshoe trails lead back down to the valley station. The Altschwand Trail is the shorter of the two.
After the chair-lift ride, snowshoers can first enjoy the views of Lake Zurich below and the Alps in the distance. The route starts with a short climb up to Schwammegg and then follows along the ridge to Hinterer Rotstein. From here, you get to see the Goldingen Valley and the Ricken from a different perspective. Looking down, one can easily imagine how the Linth and Thur Glaciers collided here during the ice age about 2.5 million years ago.
The trail continues down a hillside and across Alp Altschwand – where the mountain restaurant is a perfect place for a break – back to the valley.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
