Brunni Trail
Overview
Intro
High above Lake Thun the snowshoe trail leads from sunny Aeschiried to the foot of the Morgenberghorn. The views of the fantastic mountain backdrop and deep blue Lake Thun are spectacular.
Description
The snowshoe hike begins in Aeschiried in the heart of the Bernese Oberland. From the parking area the trail turns onto the Alpine meadows and continues gently uphill to Aeschi-Allmi. During the leisurely climb across the Aeschiallmi meadows you have a breathtaking view of the Kander Valley. The majestic peaks of the Bernese Alps seem close enough to touch.
On the snowed-in summer route you continue to Alp Bireberg above the Suld Valley. Hidden behind the Morgenberghorn and sunny Aeschiried the mountain valley is a place of tranquillity and intact nature. Just look at the dark forests and the winter landscape glistening in the sun. The largely untouched valley at the foot of the Morgenberghorn is a nature reserve. Black grouse, chamois and deer are roaming through the forests and across the meadows, where you find colourful orchids and gentians blooming in the spring. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a golden eagle.
At Alp Bireberg you leave the summer path and climb up to the crest. The trail steadily goes up along the tree-covered mountain ridge and leads via Greberegg to the foot of the Morgenberghorn. At Greberegg you may want to stop and enjoy the marvellous views of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. A last steep ascent takes you to Brunni Hut (not serviced in winter). The panorama at the hut is amazing. Down below you see sparkling Lake Thun with the impressive rocky ridge of the Niederhorn and the Sigriswiler Rothorn above. The same route takes you back to Aeschiried. This snowshoe trip is suitable for experienced snowshoe hikers.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
