Foppa-Schlittelweg
Overview
Intro
Take a comfortable chairlift ride from Flims up to Foppa, then whizz back downhill: this fast and twisting descent passes through the forest and follows a specially designed piste back to the valley station in Flims.
Description
Keen sledgers certainly get their money’s worth here, because as soon as they reach the bottom, the efficient chairlift brings them back up to Foppa. The toboggan run down to Flims is about three kilometres long. Starting below the Berghaus Foppa restaurant, it snakes through the tall fir trees in the forest at the foot of the imposing Flimserstein, speeding through a series of turns and across the snow-covered landscape.
In the middle, the run crosses the ski slope and follows the river Flem, which traverses the Val Stenna and the Stenna Gorge outside Flims. To the north of this valley section that separates the districts of Flims Dorf and Waldhaus, a specially designed piste leads back to the starting point at the valley station.
The northward view from here includes the Tschingelhörner peaks featuring the Glarus Overthrust, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008. To the south, the Flimser Grosswald forest with its four lakes stands on the cone of debris left by the Flims Rockslide. The view into the Rhine gorge from Conn is equally stunning.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
