Rundweg Leiterli–Steinstoss
Overview
Intro
Moderate winter hike at the edge of the Lenk–Betelberg ski resort with spectacular panoramic view of the mountains of the western Bernese Oberland. Also impressive: the bizarre Gryden.
Description
It starts right after a pleasant gondola ride to Betelberg: A short steep ascent awaits the winter hikers. First destination is the highest and namesake point of the circular route: Leiterli. The brief exertion is worth it – not only because there is a gentle descent after that: Upon reaching the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Metschberg, Wildstrubel and Plaine-Morte massif up to Wildhorn. Down into the valley, you can gaze over the wintry, silent Pöschenried. In the other direction, despite of the thick snow cover, you can recognise that the slopes in front of you are wild and rugged. The crater-like terrain is made up of gypsum. Since it is water-soluble, it has been eroded by rain in the course of time; this has resulted in the formation of funnel-shaped depressions, the so-called sink-holes.
This is followed by a slightly hilly section, before the path leads to the turning point to Steinstoss in a gentle drop. Here, the view expands from Wildhorn over the Wildstrubel massif and as far as the Adelbodner peak.
After a bit longer descent, far away from the ski slopes, the path leads past groups of pine trees before going, via Agematte, into a loop back in the direction of the exit point. If you are not keen on the steep final ascent to the top station, you can extend the hike and follow the groomed winter hike path to the mid-station of Stoss.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
