Mayentset Bike
Overview
Intro
An interesting tour that partially follows the magnificent Tsandra Suone until Mayens de My. The descent leads along gentle forest paths and a single trail specially designed for mountain bikes.
Description
The start of this tour is in the village of Daillon on the southern flank of the Rhone valley. The lovely village is surrounded by vineyards and pine forests. A very short downhill section right at the start is followed by a long ascent. After Pomeiron, the last village in the Conthey district, you climb uphill in large hairpin bends.
Once you reach the "Ancienne Bisse de la Tsandra", the path is no longer quite so steep. Up to Mayens de My, you partly follow this irrigation channel, which was built in the 15th century and flows through several tunnels. A theme trail along the watercourse informs about the history and function of the irrigation channels in the Valais on information boards. After about three kilometres in the pine forest, you cross Mayens de My. Here you find the next irrigation channel, the Petite Bisse. It also draws water from the Tsanfleuron glacier near the Diablerets massif. It is fed by the La Morge mountain stream and is in operation between June and October.
On reaching the road that leads to the Sanetsch pass, you follow it for a few metres. Then you immediately turn left and enter the forest. One descent and one ascent later, you reach Le Mayentset, the highest point of the tour. The descent takes you along gentle paths through the forest. In some sections, it leads along a single trail specially designed for mountain bikes, with regular steep wall bends. This section is also accessible for hand bikes. The tour ends back in Daillon.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
